12 Disturbing Sci-Fi Movie Endings That Haunt You
6. Return Of The Living Dead
Coming from Alien scribe Dan O'Bannon, it wouldn’t be at all unreasonable to expect a title like Return of the Living Dead to be a dead serious zombie flick in the vein of Romero’s similarly titled series. Actually, it’s a chance for the writer to let his funnier side run free, with this raucous sci-fi horror featuring talking zombies, sentient severed limbs, and some choice banter between its likeable leads.
Nice one—a pre Shaun of the Dead zombie film which isn’t all doom and gloom and necessary but brutally depressing allegories for racism and consumerism and America’s brutal reign in Vietnam.
Oh right, except for the ending wherein our heroes call the military for some support—and they are annihilated along with their entire hometown by a nuclear strike.
That’ll be the nihilistic satire, right on time to crush all our hopes then.
