12 Disturbing Sci-Fi Movie Endings That Haunt You

This vicious little slice of Alien-style sci-fi horror is refreshingly unpretentious, never attempting to outdo Cronenberg with some ambitious body horror or remind its audience of Event Horizon, Pandorum, or any of the many other space-set chillers which become bogged down by interminable backstory and labyrinthine plots.

Nope, despite its high wattage star power (hello, Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba, and Jake Gyllenhall) and sizeable budget, this gritty horror has no shame in simply tearing through its heroes with aplomb and constantly shocking the audience with unexpected, bloody surprises (bye, Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba, and eventually even our hero Jake Gyllenhall).

Yep, unlike its obvious inspiration Alien, this flick is willing to not only let its little bugger of a space monster murder the protagonist space man (and right at the height of Gyllenhall’s career revival, too), it even implies the spindly creep will soon kill off most of planet earth in short order.

Even Alien 3’s grim denouement would have to respect the tenacity.
