12 Dumb Decisions In Harry Potter Movies We Can't Forgive
2. Removing Dudley’s (Relative) Decency
If the films are guilty of occasionally converting the
saintly Albus Dumbledore into a Ray-Wistone-esque bruiser blundering his way through
Hogwarts, they are also culpable for losing a lot of character development when
it comes to less central characters from the series.
Take Harry’s hated cousin Dudley, who in the film series is a living embodiment of every cliché about spoiled kids—self-centred, arrogant, and thoughtless.
And he is the books too! Until the touching moment when, grown up enough to acknowledge his flaws, Dudley offers a tentative olive branch and attempts to make amends with Harry. Frustratingly, this reconciliation was filmed for the later flicks but cut for time, a decision which undercuts the running theme throughout the series of children being free from repeating the cycles of cruelties perpetuated by their predecessors.
Nothing major lost though, just, you know, the point of the entire series.
