12 Dumb Decisions In Harry Potter Movies We Can't Forgive

8. The Entire Siege On The Burrow

Burrow Harry Potter
Warner Bros.

What’s wrong with the film’s trying to add an original sequence of their own here and there, we hear you protest. Well for one thing the doorstop-sized later Harry Potter novels have an embarrassment of riches in their pages, so it’s not unreasonable to expect that the films, severely limited by their runtime already, wouldn’t endeavour to throw more on their plate by adding new scenes with no book equivalent.

Secondly, whilst some of the new scenes work, they’re generally intimate character moments—shout out to the bizarre little Nick Cave dance sequence in Deathly Hallows Part One. Where they fail wholesale is in sequences like the cluttered, misjudged attack on the Burrow, a sudden action scene dropped into the adaptation of the Half Blood Prince whose logistics defy any explanation.

Why isn’t Voldemort there? Why did the Death Eaters retreat when they’re tidily winning?

Why isn’t this another inexplicable but irresistible little indie song interlude, damn it?!
