12 Film Characters Whose Deaths Came Out Of Nowhere

11. Evelyn O'Connell (The Mummy Returns)

The O'Connells are not your typical couple. Rick (Brendan Fraser) is a world-famous adventurer and his Egyptologist wife, Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) is the reincarnation of Princess Nefertiti. Awfully convenient, you might say. Or perhaps it's an occupational hazard. Either way, when her rival Anck-su-namun (Patricia Velasquez) is resurrected, our couple have to contend with not only the undead hoardes of Anubis' army but what has to be one of the longest-running grudge matches in history. Fortunately, Rick and his son Alex (Freddie Boath) appease Anubis by returning his bracelet to its rightful place return, and with all magic and macguffins neatly restored, the world is saved. But Anck-su-namun isn't one to bury the hatchet. She does however, bury the knife - having casually entered the scene to stab Evelyn in the stomach. As she lies clutching her conspicuously bloodless wound, the orchestra swells up and she splutters her goodbyes. This being rather an affront to the typical Hollywood happy ending, her son inserts more credit...I mean, reads from the Book of the Dead and promptly resurrects her. Nice work, kid.
