12 Films So Bad That They Killed Off Their Franchise
8. Halloween Resurrection
It might seem a bit unfair to point to this film as being the cause of the downfall of the franchise, given that this was actually the third film to stall this franchise for multiple years. But it's also not fair to give us Busta Rhymes kung-fu kicking Michael Myers as a final showdown, so it all evens out.
Resurrection earns the distinct shame of ruining a perfectly good ending. The prior installment in the franchise, Halloween: H20, featured the long-awaited return of Jamie Lee Curtis and a story Halloween fans could be proud of. It had its share clunks, but was overall a solid addition to the franchise that ended on the absolute pitch-perfect note of Curtis defeating Myers, driving him off of a cliff, and chopping his head off. It was everything fans could have ever asked for from a finale.
So of course, Resurrection retconned the entire thing, to the point that it was unrecognizable. And it lamely kills off Curtis in the first five minutes. And its plot centers on a reality show taking place in the old Myers' house. Noticing a trend here?
This film is an egregious insult to the franchise and, when you're talking about a series that already has a film centering on Myers as the leader of a goofy cult, that's truly saying something.
