12 Horror Movies That Deserved Sequels

3. Attack The Block

The 2011 debut film from writer-director Joe Cornish proved to be a big deal in ways audiences couldn't have expected at the time. For one, it gave actor John Boyega - later catapulted to stardom by Star Wars: The Force Awakens - his screen debut. It was also the first genre role of Jodie Whittaker, poised to make history in 2018 as the first female Doctor Who.

Beyond this, though, Attack the Block is simply one of the best, most creative British films of the past twenty years; blending horror, sci-fi, comedy and kitchen sink drama to craft something familiar yet entirely unique, with a distinctly modern and British sensibility despite its Hollywood trappings.

It's also a hell of a creature feature: the alien monsters (or "gorilla wolf motherf***ers," if you prefer) are among the coolest and creepiest such creations we've seen in recent years, and Cornish utilises them beautifully in some genuinely scary sequences.

While there was talk of a sequel almost immediately, the film's rather weak box office reception ($5.8 million off a $13.5 million budget) seemed to scupper that. In the years since, Boyega's obviously gotten a bit busier; however, Cornish has sadly still yet to direct a second film.
