12 Horror Movies That Deserved Sequels
2. Trick 'R Treat
Michael Dougherty's 2007 Halloween anthology horror has a bit of a chequered past. Originally scheduled to hit cinemas that October (logical enough), Warner Bros abruptly pulled it, for reasons which have never really been explained. Despite huge fan interest, it wound up sitting on the shelf for two years, ultimately going direct to DVD in 2009.
Still, Trick 'R Treat very quickly became a Halloween favourite: one of the few horror films of its kind to really use the spookiest holiday of the year and its traditions as the central theme, rather than simply a backdrop.
The portmanteau set-up makes sequels easy to envisage, as no characters need to return beyond central imp Sam. And given that the first film encompassed a mere handful of horror staples - werewolves, ghosts, serial killers - there's scope to explore plenty more in further films.
Dougherty has long proclaimed his hopes to make the sequel, but it went on hold as the director made Christmas horror Krampus, and remains on the back-burner as he works on upcoming sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
However, Dougherty has stated on record that Trick 'R Treat 2 is next on his agenda, so all being well it may be the one unmade sequel on this list that actually comes to fruition.
