12 Huge Movies That Captain Marvel Destroyed At The Box Office

7. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Box Office: $873.6 million

How many superheroes can say that they toppled both Batman and Superman?

The pair are undoubtedly DC's greatest commodities and, for the longest time, the idea of them squaring off on the big screen was simply that: an idea. So, when it finally became a reality in 2016, it should have been box office gold.

If this were any other movie, a global cume of $873 million would have been a triumph. But given the heroes involved, and the 'dream-movie' factor, Warner Bros. were certainly expecting Batman v Superman to cross the one-billion mark.

However, questionable trailers, negative reviews and fans' distaste at franchise's direction all prevented this big-screen clash from being the box office phenomenon that it could have been. Instead, it was just a very successful superhero movie in a world full of very successful superhero movies.

That said, it makes Captain Marvel's history-making achievement all the more impressive.
