12 Lesser Known Fall Movies You Should Be Excited About
2. Krampus
Release date: December 4
If you're a horror fanatic, Michael Dougherty's Trick 'R Treat was nothing short of a revelation. It was fun, genuinely scary, and a total love letter to Halloween. Now Dougherty is back for another holiday themed treat, and it has potential to be one of the fall's most enjoyable films.
Dougherty's latest horror/comedy is based around Krampus, a Christmas demon who punishes people for their bad behaviour during the holiday season. As a dysfunctional family struggles to get along, the demon comes after them and they must band together to survive. Isn't that just the coolest plot for a Christmas movie you've ever heard? Krampus is evidently going to be even more comedy focused than Dougherty's previous films, and the cast includes some hilarious actors: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Allison Tolman, and David Koechner.
Dougherty recently said in an interview that there has been a severe lack of iconic horror villains over the past few years, and he wanted to make Krampus into one of those creatures that people remember and dress as for Halloween. He's focused both on the human characters and on the personality of Krampus itself, and that'll make for one hell of a messed up, festive ride.
