12 Live-Action Anime Projects You Didn’t Know Were Happening
3. Mobile Suit Gundam
Well, it looks like Netflix is back in the fray again, but this time they're dragging Legendary Pictures with them. Both of these companies are going to have their hands full with live-action anime in the coming years.
Anime is a medium that's chock full of long-running series' whose canons' have grown so wild, dense and fractured that finding a starting point feels impossible. Gundam probably takes the cake for that, as it's an IP with over 50 different TV shows and films, comprised of multiple sequels, standalone titles and more. It's safe to say you'll need a guide if you want to get through it, or you could just patiently wait for this.
It was announced in 2018 that Legendary Pictures would be adapting the massive IP. News also broke only last year that Netflix would be distributing it and that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (director of Kong: Skull Island) would be directing.
One of the coolest things about this project is the concept art pictured above. This image of the iconic RX-78-2 awash with flames, glowing eyes and a badass power stance gives a very promising glimpse into what could (hopefully) be a very kick-ass film.
