A blink and you'll miss it cameo within the ending of Spider-Man 2 (2004) finds the Punisher among the New Yorkers as Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) runs away from her wedding and into the arms of Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire). The cameo is a brief one as it is wasn't officially agreed on between Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox.
Originally Sam Raimi intended for Thomas Jane to make an appearance, but contract issues restricted Jane from appearing in the film. Undeterred, Raimi acted quickly and replaced the actor with his stunt double, who looked remarkably similar to Jane, and thus making him the perfect replacement.

Along with the failed Wolverine cameo and rumours suggesting Raimi wanted to feature Mister Fantastic in Spider-Man 3, the current Doctor Strange director was very close to starting a different kind of MCU years before Marvel Studios.
