12 Marvel Movies You Didn't Know Were Secretly Connected
4. Daredevil's Father Gets Taken Out By Bonesaw - Spider-Man (2002)
While producing the Spider-Man trilogy Sam Raimi made many references to other Marvel characters. Daredevil was the first character referenced on screen. Raimi put his spin on the Man Without Fear, which was developed further in the novelisation.
Shortly after Peter receives his powers he decides to earn some quick cash by wrestling the brutal Bone Saw McGraw. Before Peter fights Bone Saw, the previous opponent dressed in a red and yellow costume with a horned mask is taken away on a stretcher. The outfit is a loose reference to costumes worn by the blind vigilante Daredevil. The novelisation, written by Peter David, identifies Bone Saw's victim as Jack Murdock, father of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil.
It is easy to imagine Jack Murdock taking the wrestling job despite being a boxer, in an attempt to pay for Matt's education, but the story doesn't end there. Even though the cameo in the movie was brief, Peter David adds a scene where Jack is taken hostage during a robbery and Spider-Man saves him. Jack later calls his son to tell him about the 'daredevil' that saved him.
The fascinating part about this entry is that Matt would become Daredevil after Peter, when it's typically the former who acts as more of a mentor figure to Spidey in the comics.. It is safe to assume if Matt became Daredevil, he would be inspired by the hero that saved his father years earlier.
