12 The Matrix Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

1. The Woman In The Red Dress Scene Uses Twins And Triplets As Extras To Mimic Cypher's Code

In addition to the Matrix and the real world it conceals, other environments crop up in the movie which exist somewhere in between. These are the programs used to train and instruct people as to the nature of the Matrix - simple yet effective closed environments designed to serve a particular function. One of the most often missed touches the Wachowskis added to The Matrix comes in the scene in which Morpheus instructs Neo about the Agents in a simulation created by the character Cypher. Walking down a busy street, Neo finds himself distracted by the woman in the red dress and learns a valuable lesson about remaining vigilant while in the Matrix. What enhances the scene considerably - and what many people fail to see - is how many duplicated people there are in the crowd. The Wachowskis wanted to simulate the idea that this is a program, and how coders would duplicate background characters to save time, so they scoured Sydney and hired as many twins and triplets they could find to make up the extras. It's a wonderful touch, but did you spot it? Or were you too busy looking at the woman in the red dress? Have you spotted any other easter eggs while watching The Matrix?
