5. Pay It Forward
A misguided Haley Joel Osment vehicle from the years
following the enfant terrible’s blockbuster debut The Sixth Sense, Pay It
Forward was a mawkish and overly sentimental inspirational drama wherein a
precocious kid played by the former child star begins a national trend of do-goodery
which soon takes the world by storm.
It’s all very touching, culminating in a scene where our naïve young hero intervenes in some bullying to save the day—and is promptly and unceremoniously stabbed to death apropos of nothing.
So… Don’t pay a good deed forward?
What on earth was the message of this film, beyond the storytelling equivalent of a Rick roll?
