Sold for: $4,600,000 The image of Marilyn Monroe standing atop the subway grate in The Seven Year Itch is a perfect snapshot of 20th century cinema, and a defining moment in the actress' career. The famous white dress she wore in the scene, also sold at Debbie Reynolds' 2011 memorabilia auction, is equally iconic, as evidenced by it $4,600,000 price tag. It stands as a monument to Hollywood in the 1950s, and to Monroe's status as a timeless sex symbol. Reynolds, who amassed a collection of some 3,500 movie props, had hoped to open a museum to house it all, but little interest was shown and the project fell through. The buyer of the dress remains unidentified, but the piece is likely to show up on display again at some point. With a price tag like that, it'd be a shame to keep it locked away and hidden.
