10. The Exorcist Parody - Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters reception was a tad mixed, to say the least. The reboot was causing fans sleepless nights well before release for a number of reasons, but if the trailer was meant to help ease their concerns, it did the exact opposite.
It was a messy, unfunny patchwork of scenes and moments, and it made the mistake of highlighting arguably the worst scene of the whole film. About midway through Melissa McCarthy’s character is possessed by an evil spirit, leading to all sorts of Exorcist-style hijinks. It’s unbelievable that a comedy released in 2016 still believes lame Exorcist references will be fresh, and the amount of hyperactive shouting and chaos does little to improve matters.
While opinion over the end product was split, everyone had to agree this ill-conceived sequence was just really dumb.
