12 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming
5. Escape Room 2
Unlike many entries on this list, one film that has managed an extremely quick turnaround from the original's success to the sequel stage is 2019's Escape Room. The original film utilised the My Little Eye's Big Brother style death game premise with Saw's macabre killing mechanisms. Escape Room proved to be a box office smash off a small budget, despite refusing to cover any new ground and a no name cast.
As has been displayed by the likes of the The Purge, Paranormal Activity and Saw franchises, having a small budget can be a major advantage when creating a franchise. This means that the first Escape Room sequel, scheduled for a 2021 New Years Day release, is likely to be the first of many. The two survivors from the original film, Taylor Russell's Zoe and Logan Miller's Ben, are both confirmed starters here, although how exactly they find themselves within yet another torture chamber masking as an escape room is unknown.
Adam Robitel is set to return as Director, while Bragi Schut is also coming back as the screenwriter. While the central antagonist from the first entry was killed off, the mysterious Puzzle Maker was seen lurking in the background of the film's final moments, plotting his next nefarious scheme. Depending on how much legs the producers believe the franchise has may determine if we catch up with this evil mastermind in the sequel, or if a new Gamemaker is introduced beforehand.
