You've got to give to to Jennifer Lawrence; she held on to the X-Men franchise for as long as she could, but it was clear around the midpoint of Days of Future Past that she was already done with the role of Mystique.

After X-Men: Apocalypse underwhelmed audiences, and even teased the death of Mystique, it was a surprise to see Jennifer Lawrence was coming back for another round in another retread of the Phoenix Saga.

Despite being one of the top-billed actors, and taking a huge chunk of space on promo posters, the writing was on the wall and Jennifer Lawrence pulled the ripcord on the franchise fairly early on in the film.

It came as no surprise that Mystique was the one to bite the bullet; especially with ominous funeral shots in the trailers and closeups of Hank McCoy looking all sad, but what's really peculiar is how much the film tried its best to make it appear like Mystique was still sticking around.

Obviously it would be a spoiler if Lawrence told the world she was done, but maybe she could have at least tried to pretend she was still invested in the franchise?

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
