12 Movies & TV Shows You Didn't Know Were Remade On Broadway

2. Heathers

The 1988 cult classic "Heathers", captivates new audiences every year as a cult film directed at teenagers. Much like The Breakfast Club, producers found another popular movie they could adapt with the idea of appealing to younger audiences.

Heathers: The Musical opened at New World Stages in 2014. Teenage audiences flocked and fell in love with the dark comedy, just as they had in the 80s. Barrett Wilbert Reed, Jessica Keenan Wynn and Ryan McCartan starred in the musical and quickly became the topic of Twitter, collecting fans from all over the country as word spread about the adaptation.

Talks were heavy of bringing the musical to broadway, as millennials lit up Twitter with their love of the staged production. But executives didn't feel they had the support of an older generation and the Heathers home remained next door to Avenue Q until it was closed in August of 2014 and moved to London’s West End.
