12 Movies Where The Hero Became A Villain
2. The Social Network
The Hero
it might seem a stretch to say that Mark Zuckerberg is any kind of hero, but he's certainly not a bad guy when we meet him at the outset of The Social Network.
Sure, he might be aloof and idiosyncratic, but he's "normal" enough to have a relationship and functioning friendships and his aspirations don't seem to involve worrld domination or billions of dollars. Or screwing his only friends over to double down on his own position.
But Then...
Zuckerberg is basically this generation's Citizen Kane, whose rise to power completely transforms him and feeds into the darker parts of his character to turn him into a full-blown villain. He's callous, arrogant and thoroughly repugnant and his treatment of Eduardo Saverin is held up as his puppy-kicking moment.
As if you needed further confirmation that he's a villain, this was basically the performance that scored Eisenberg the Lex Luthor gig.
