11. The T-800 (Terminator 2: Judgement Day)

The Grinch
TriStar Pictures

The Connor Family’s worst nightmare winds up being their greatest salvation in this epic sci fi classic.

Separated from her son and trapped within an especially miserable asylum for the criminally insane, she longs to be able to protect John. In her absence, an all new, all different liquid Terminator steps in to do away with her future hero son. His protector? The T-800. The model of Terminator deployed to kill Sarah Connor several years prior.

Not only does the T-800 prove a worthwhile companion and bodyguard, he also befriends John and learns what it means ti be human. In the line of duty, the T-800 winds up getting maimed and broken by the near-invincible T-1000. Rebooting, the T-101 still delivers the goods, shooting his nemesis into a fatal vat of molten steel.

Bidding farewell to the humans he’s come to care for, he lowers himself into the vat also in a bid to prevent his hellish future from happening. After the terror caused in the original, seeing the T-800 as an honourable guardian was a mind blowing moment for viewers. So noble was this new T-800 that even Sarah Connor’s faith is restored by the end of the film.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
