12 Movies Where The Villain Turns Good

6. Loki (Thor: Ragnarok)

The Grinch
Marvel Studios

More 2-faced than Harvey Dent, Loki’s allegiances are at best unpredictable throughout his many appearances in the MCU. After betraying just about everyone on offer in Thor, trying to conquer Earth in The Avengers and identity snatching Odin in Thor: The Dark World, Loki coming good seemed monumentally unlikely.

Initially trying to betray his heroic brother yet again, Loki is finally outwitted by Thor and left behind when the Revengers go to Asgard. Moved by Thor’s comments and seeing an opportunity, Loki arrives with a ship big enough to safely evacuate the kingdom. Fighting by his brother’s side, Loki agrees to revive Surtur the Fire Demon to defeat Hela.

Loki’s actions allow Thor’s quest to be a success over the suicide mission it initially appeared to be. His ship provides a home for the Asgardians as they seek refuge elsewhere. After reconciling with Thor, Loki eventually dies trying to save him in Avengers: Infinity War.

One of the MCU’s most well received characters, Loki’s journey from diabolical traitor to charismatic trickster to troubled hero provided a great arc throughout the Thor films.
