12 Movies You Wrongly Thought Bombed In 2018

2. Unfriended: Dark Web

Unfriended Dark Web
BH Tilt

Budget: $1 million

Box Office: $11.2 million

Now, it's at least easy to see why some believe this "shared screen" horror sequel was a box office bust, because in fairness, it ended up grossing less than 20% of its predecessor's final total.

But because Unfriended: Dark Web was priced at just $1 million, it still turned in an easy profit, grossing more than 11x its meagre price tag.

Considering that it was released in barely half the number of domestic cinemas of the original movie and was dumped on Blumhouse's BH Tilt label - which they reserve for "lesser" releases with minimal marketing - it's not a bad result at all.

Clearly Blumhouse is looking at the long game here with VOD revenue, even if the shock over its under-performance compared to the original is understandable.
