12 Near-Miss Castings That Almost Improved The Marvel Cinematic Universe

10. Jensen Ackles As Hawkeye - The Avengers

Before the part of Captain America was offered to Chris Evans, Jensen Ackles name was linked with portraying the World War II era superhero. In that case, however, we think it's for the best that it didn't go to Ackles. However, in the case of his link to Hawkeye, we kind of wish it did. Ackles has denied any involvement with Marvel at all, but it has been reported in a number of high-profile news sources that he had indeed auditioned for the role of Steve Rogers and was well liked by Marvel - to the extent that later asked him back to discuss the part of Hawkeye in The Avengers. Although the conversation was said to be quite brief - and he couldn't take the part due to his Supernatural commitments - we can't help but think he would have been better than Jeremy Renner in the role, given that he's been one of the most underwhelming characters to date. Renner isn't necessarily to blame - he's definitely been under-utilised - but a well-known yet smaller budget star like Ackles would probably have taken the part a bit more seriously and there would have been less controversy about his small part. There would also have been more of a chance of seeing Hawkeye in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which would be great.
