In the vastly idiotic landscape of Michael Bay's take on the Turtles universe, it was possible to ignore any flashes of genius - or at least dismiss them as uncharacteristic and accidental - but there was a genuinely pleasant surprise courtesy of Will Arnett. Playing a particularly annoying version of Vernon Fenwick, Arnett was a quipping bystander for most of the film, playing sexually charged sidekick to Megan Fox's plucky April O'Neil. He was no more than comic relief and a camera to point at Fox, when he was clearly designed as the audience's accessible in-point. But all failures aside, it seems Arnett sneaked a self-referential Easter Egg into the film, taking the need to make a sandwich as an opportunity to pay homage to Arrested Development. If you look closely enough, or are quick enough with the pause button, you will see he makes a sandwich consisting of mustard and parmesan cheese, the same ingredients his character uses in the TV show when he has nothing else to eat.
