11. Alien: Covenant 2

Ridley Scott has always had two Prometheus sequels in the works, and following the release of Alien: Covenant last year, he reiterated his desire to release a second sequel to close off the Xenomorph saga and allow Fox to soft-reboot the core Alien franchise. The film was set to focus on Michael Fassbender's tyrannical android David.

Current Status: Covenant was a considerable box office disappointment, only barely doubling its budget and grossing not even 60% of Prometheus' final take worldwide.

Shortly after Covenant's release, Fox declared they were "reassessing" future sequels, which is basically corporate-speak for placing them on a shelf to accumulate dust.

How Likely Is It?: Though Fox's CEO Stacey Snider seemed optimistic about Scott getting back in the saddle, it seems far more likely at this point that the franchise will be rebooted, with some fresh blood likely invited to direct while the 80-year-old Scott stays on as a producer.

Fassbender could end up involved somehow, but expect his arc from the end of Covenant to be mostly dropped in favour of focusing on a new cast and premise. Covenant 2 isn't impossible, just pretty damn unlikely. 4/10
