12 Reasons Movies Were Better When You Were Younger

7. You Cared Less About Outside Factors

Nowadays, it's hard for film fans to watch a movie on its own terms: their experience will likely be coloured either by some stupid comment an actor or director made before release, the expectations raised by the critical consensus, or simply what you've come to expect from a filmmaker like, say, Michael Bay. As a kid without the requisite knowledge of who directed what, you simply think the explosions and colourful robots look cool, and what more do you really need to know? There's certainly an ignorance is bliss aspect to this argument, sure, but as adults it's practically impossible to watch a movie without expectations of some kind anymore, and that's a shame. As a child, you're totally oblivious to the fact that something might be a 3D cash-grab or directed by a hack, and you just accept what you're watching on its own terms, which one can argue might be the ideal way to watch any movie, free of prejudice and enjoyed (or not) for what it is.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
