12 Reasons The Star Wars Sequels Aren't As Bad As You Think
1. Most Things In This Trilogy Which Annoyed Viewers Are Nothing New
Finally, here are some common complaints about the Sequels:
Rey is overpowered. Snoke has no backstory. Finn's arc was mishandled. Kylo Ren turned after one conversation and is forgiven despite his crimes. The wider galaxy isn't shown enough. It's full of plot holes. The writing was flawed. The trilogy wasn't planned properly.
You can find similar things in the Original Trilogy.
Luke is a great pilot despite having no training. The Emperor had no backstory. Han Solo was suddenly a wimp in Episode VI. Darth Vader turned very quickly and was forgiven when he'd done worse than Kylo. The wider galaxy barely appears. There are plot holes in the OT too, as well as occasionally iffy dialogue. Lucas clearly didn't fully plan out things like the twists surrounding Darth Vader and Luke and Leia.
Do fans complain about these flaws? The silence is deafening. As for the Prequels... do you really want to go there? OK then.
The writing, plot holes and character arcs in those films are miles worse than anything in the Sequels, which are easily better than all three of those movies.
The point is, there's a huge double-standard with the Sequels and the issues that occur in them are not new within the franchise. Many just don't seem to be willing to give the Sequels credit for everything they did right.
Still, the Prequels are little more appreciated now, so maybe the Sequels will be in the future too. Let's hope so, for they deserve it.
