12 Reasons Why Justice League Is Worse Than Batman V Superman
3. The Plot Is Derivative Of Other Superhero Films
Stop me if you've heard this one before: an otherworldly evil has arrived on Earth to collect powerful alien artefacts that, when used in the correct way, will destroy the world. In an effort to stop this plan, a group of unlikely superheroes are forced to put their differences aside and defeat him.
Oh, but one of them is a bit of a rogue element, and at one point ends up fighting the rest of the group. It's okay though, because eventually they'll learn that they're more effective as a team, and defeat the villain by coming together as a unit, destroying both him and his faceless drones that have come through a portal with him, thus saving the world.
That's only a slightly reductive explanation of Justice League's plot, and while it's not exactly beat for beat The Avengers, there's enough of a similarity to make the film feel derivative. The previous movies in the DCEU were flawed, but at no point did they try to ape what other superhero flicks were doing, instead being made with a distinct vision in mind.
Justice League feels like Warner Bros. finally conceding that their vision doesn't work, but all they have to offer as an alternative is a movie that's been done before, and better.
