12 Recent Movies That Really Shouldn't Have Been Boring
1. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
In time, perhaps the Star Wars sequel trilogy will find itself getting reappraised, but for the time being The Rise of Skywalker will go down as the most controversial and divisive entry in the long-running sci-fi saga since... well, since The Last Jedi.
It seemed as though the ninth and final chapter was built solely upon fan service in an attempt to appease the fans who had rebelled against the creative choices made by Rian Johnson, with J.J. Abrams' reputation as a safe pair of hands that knows how to craft a standard Hollywood blockbuster coming to the fore.
The plot sees our heroes hear about a certain item, go on the hunt to discover said item, get either captured or chased by the enemy along the way before escaping, which then gets repeated ad nauseam. Even choices made by the characters as recently as one movie ago are completely abandoned in order to try and make up for the damage that some people felt that The Last Jedi had caused.
Of course, it would have helped had The Rise of Skywalker delivered as a rousing, epic finale to a franchise that has captured hearts and imaginations for over 40 years, but it seems to be much more focused on retcons and tying up lose ends instead.
