3. Gemini Man

The Mule Clint Eastwood
Paramount Pictures

Gemini Man spent over 20 years stuck in development hell, and even with Will Smith in the leading role and Ang Lee behind the camera, it boggles the mind that they couldn't come up with anything better than this.

Having an elite assassin being hunted by a clone of his younger self is a showstopper of a synopsis that opens itself up to a world of high-octane action sequences and introspective drama, but despite some visual flourishes, Gemini Man isn't engaging in the slightest.

The CGI is solid until Young Will Smith has to move his face and we venture perilously close to uncanny valley territory, and by the end of the movie you get the feeling that the famously cutting-edge director only signed on to get a chance to play with the latest technology.

Remove the cloning element, and the plot devices and one-dimensional supporting characters are exactly the same as you'd find in dozens of bargain-bin actioners, and having an A-list star and Academy Award winning director take $140m and come out with something so remarkably dull is quite a feat.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
