12 Stars Wars Mysteries STILL Not Answered After Rise Of Skywalker

4. Who Made The Dagger (And WHY?)

What exactly was the merit in someone making a dagger that specifically led to the location of the Wayfinder that would help them find were Palpatine was hiding? Who was it made for and more importantly who actually made it?

The dagger specifically exists to reveal where the Wayfinder is sited on the downed Death Star, which means it was crafted after the Death Star was destroyed. And that's despite the fact that the language written all over it is forbidden at the point that it was made.

The logical answer is that it was Palpatine who made it, because he's the only one in possession of the required information. There are possible other answers too, but the problem with not offering a definitive answer is that it makes the dagger no more than ANOTHER MacGuffin that ultimately meant very little other than providing a plot-advancing function.

And that is not good story-telling.
