12 Things Marvel Will Want You To Forget About X-Men Movies

8. Development Hell

Gambit X-Men Origins

After the character was received so poorly in X-Men Origins, fans of Gambit were pleased to hear he would be getting a second chance, appearing in a film of his own, and portrayed by Channing Tatum instead of Taylor Kitsch. However, since then, the movie has gone through the most hellish development hell ever.

Years after the announcement, the film is no closer to being made, despite its initial October 2016 release date. Rupert Wyatt first joined the project as director in 2015, but exited several months later after reported creative differences. His replacement Doug Liman joined before the end of the year but also left just months later. The latest director to be attached was Gore Verbinski, but yet again, the director left the project amid rumours of creative differences.

On top of the director worries, the script has been continually rewritten and started again, Tatum himself has had to renegotiate contracts, and the movie's release date has been pushed back time and time again. The current release date is slated as 7th June 2019, but it will be a miracle if this movie ever sees the light of day. Surely, the best course of action would be to scrap the project entirely and wait for the MCU to do the character justice.
