12 Things Marvel Will Want You To Forget About X-Men Movies
6. Development Hell Pt. 2
The New Mutants is a movie that is packed with potential. After six movies focused around Professor X and Magneto, this would usher in, as the name would suggest, new mutants to the X-Universe to share the spotlight. After so many films revolving mainly around two characters, a change was definitely needed. When the first trailer dropped, the film starring Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton looked to be very different indeed.
This would be the first horror based movie in the franchise, but has since had its release date pushed back from April 2018 to February 2019, and then back to August 2019. Reshoots followed, but were reportedly extensive, making the film more frightening and removing Mister Sinister and the Essex Corporation completely.
There is a danger that New Mutants, and possibly even X-Men: Dark Phoenix, will fall victim to the Disney-Fox deal, stranded in no man's land too late to exist in Fox's Universe, but too early to exist in the MCU. Here's hoping the film can come out the other side, but right now it looks unlikely.
