12 Things Marvel Will Want You To Forget About X-Men Movies
5. Vinnie Jones
There are some great examples of great casting in the X-Men franchise. Stewart, McAvoy, McKellan, Fassbender, Reynolds, Keene, and Jackman were all seemingly born to play their characters. The same can't be said about everyone though. Someone, somewhere, for some reason, made the decision to hire former Leeds United midfielder Vinnie Jones for the role of Juggernaut.
X-Men: The Last Stand went wrong for so many reasons, failing to live up to the expectations set by the previous two movies, and this just didn't help its cause. He is cheesy, over the top, and pretty much what you would expect from a footballer turned actor. This casting choice just makes no sense opposite the likes of Partick Stewart and Ian McKellan.
In Deadpool 2, the character is re-imagined as a far better, more physically imposing behemoth, played by Ryan Reynolds himself. Though this version wouldn't fit in with Stewart or McKellan either, he isn't supposed to. Reynolds' iteration of the character fits perfectly with what it is supposed to - Reynolds' Deadpool.
Other than the Merc with the Mouth himself, this is probably the biggest improvement any character reboot has had.
