12 Things You Learn Rewatching Die Another Day
12. The CGI Gun Barrel Is A Terrible Way To Start The Movie
The movie sadly doesn't get off to the best start, with even the movie's gun barrel sequence raising more than a few eyebrows among the fanbase.
Director Lee Tamahori requested that the gun barrel include CGI effects, resulting in a digital bullet being fired at the audience when 007 shoots his gun.
It's a gaudy, jarring way to kick things off and is essentially emblematic of perhaps Die Another Day's most frustrating element: the woeful overuse of wildly inconsistent visual effects.
Tamahori makes excessive use of CGI that was unconvincing even back in 2002, especially for Jinx's (Halle Berry) cliff dive, the infamous tidal wave sequence and, of course, the sloppy plane finale.
Thankfully the Bond franchise took a breather immediately after this film, and Casino Royale ultimately ditched CGI almost entirely.
