12 Times Terrible Acting Ruined Potentially Great Movies

Elysium Jodie Foster
TriStar

Neill Blomkamp's highly anticipated follow-up to District 9 is an entertaining - if unsubtle - social sci-fi allegory beleaguered by a spectacularly misguided villain performance from Jodie Foster as Defense Secretary Jessica Delacourt.

Foster doesn't merely munch up the scenery, she adopts a peculiar, implacable accent that's practically impossible to take seriously. To make matters worse, much of her dialogue was clearly dubbed-over in post-production, resulting in it frequently appearing out-of-sync.

It seems that Foster was attempting to give her character a unique, "futuristic" sound, but it's a choice that fell laughably flat and ultimately wasn't even good, hammy fun. More than anything though, her wretched work detracted severely from an otherwise well-crafted and highly entertaining sci-fi actioner.
