12 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptions His Readers Can Look Forward To
8. Pet Semetary
It's been done, but then, well, so had It. No pun intended. With the success of the killer clown horror flick, another classic King remake is on the way: Pet Semetary.
The original Pet Semetary was notable as one of the few Hollywood pictures of its time to end on a down note. This was long before another King big screen adaptation, The Mist, firebombed the idea of happy Hollywood endings right off the screen. In any case, Pet Semetary (1989), starring Denise Crosby, Fred Gwynne, and the nearly forgotten Dale Midkiff (Time Trax), was a decent go at King's tale of a graveyard with the power to bring loved ones back to life.
This time around, John Lithgow will take over for Gwynne as Judd Crandal. Jason Clarke, meanwhile, takes the lead as Louis Creed, whose family is beseiged by tragedy, and who makes the disastrous choice to risk using the cursed cemetary.
This time around, Paramount (the studio behind Semetary '89) has Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Scream: The TV Series) at the helm. The project is currently slated for release on 19 April 2019. While release dates are always subject to change, that's not the dumping ground that February (Deadpool and Black Panther excluded) and August historically have been. Which tells you that the studio has some faith in this remake. And yes, it's a straight up remake, not a sequel. That was done, with disastrous results.
