12 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptions His Readers Can Look Forward To
7. Revival
Salem's Lot was King does Dracula. Cell was King does zombies. If you had to sum up Revival in just a single sentence, it would be this: King does Frankenstein.
While it's not quite that simple, the Mary Shelly classic is the closest point of reference for Revival, one of King's more adaptable recent works. So it's no surprise that the novel has been optioned as one of the many current King projects under development. Universal Studios holds the rights to this one.
Both Russell Crowe and Samuel L. Jackson have been rumored to be attached to the film at varying points (there's a chance both could wind up in the film). The story tells the tale of a former preacher turned revivalist faith healer (hence the title), who winds up opening a door to another dimension — a rather horrific, Lovecraftian one.
As with The Talisman, script-writing duties for Revival are being handled by Fault in Our Stars and New Mutants director Josh Boone. A "smaller" film than properties like The Talisman and similar King works, there's a chance Revival could be out sooner rather than later, as it won't have the budgetary concerns a major fantasy production would come with.
