12 Worst Movie Spin-Offs Ever Made
9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
If it wasn't for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then we probably never would have gotten the two Deadpool movies, or even Logan in the end. But apart from that, there's not really anything to recommend about one of the worst entries in the history of Fox's mutant franchise.
It's not a good sign when your movie peaks during the opening credits, but that's exactly what happened as Wolverine's first solo outing failed to come anywhere close to matching the inventiveness on show as he and brother Victor Creed battled in wars throughout history.
The movie's box office potential was hampered when a complete version of the movie without some visual effects leaked online weeks before it was set to be released, but the CGI turned out to be so bad in the finished product that you might have been better off watching the one where you could still see the greenscreen.
Hugh Jackman drags the turgid story along on sheer charisma and force of will alone, but Wolverine was so disappointing that not only did it kill development of the entire X-Men Origins idea, throw Deadpool back into development hell for almost a decade and nix any plans for Gambit to appear again, but it also led to the entire franchise being rebooted after the back-to-back disappointments of The Last Stand and then this.
