13 Announced Movies That Will Never Actually Happen
12. The Last Of Us
A movie adaptation of Naughty Dog's classic video game The Last of Us was first announced in early 2014, with the game's writer-director Neil Druckmann set to pen the script, while Sam Raimi produces.
Though Druckmann had the script completed by 2015 and Maisie Williams was reportedly being courted to play Ellie, Druckmann later deemed the film to be in development hell after hitting a creative stalemate with Sony.
While there may be renewed interest in getting the movie made close to the release of The Last of Us Part II (probably in late 2019), Druckmann's clear negativity about the project going anywhere doesn't instil much faith.
And to be honest, given how cinematic the game is, does it really even need a movie? It makes sense to adapt games like Assassins Creed, which have awesome concepts yet questionable execution, but something as superbly written and directed as this? Not at all.
