13 Awesome 2016 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck
6. Pee-Wee's Big Holiday
Why It Should've Sucked: A belated Pee-wee Herman movie literally decades after the character stopped being a household name? With a 60-something Paul Reubens in the role? This had a lot of potential to be more sad and depressing than funny.
Why It Was Awesome: Reubens may look a little older, but you know what? He's still got it.
Pee-wee's Big Holiday may not quite measure up to the character's best cinematic adventures, but it's a surprisingly hilarious, totally demented romp all the same, reveling in the character's signature absurdist humour and unique world perspective.
Plus, it's got a metric crapton of cameos, and the fact that much of the plot hinges on the presence of Joe Manganiello (who plays himself, of course) just adds to the surreal amusement factor.
If this kickstarted more Pee-wee on Netflix, that'd be no bad thing.
