13 Awesome 2017 Movies That Deserve Best Picture (But Won't Get Nominated)

9. It

It Pennywise
Warner Bros.

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 85% (7.2/10)

Why It Deserves Best Picture: Easily the best Stephen King movie adaptation in years, It effortlessly steamrolls the campy Tim Curry-starring version of the movie with a terrifyingly R-rated treatment abetted by Andy Muschietti's slick direction, a fantastic ensemble cast of young actors, and a brilliantly horrifying Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise.

Studio horror movies don't come much better than this, melding more typical scares with superb character development and a definite sense of time and place.

Why It Won't Get Nominated: Again, the horror prejudice is in full effect here, and unlike Get Out, It will probably further turn older voters off with its more conventional horror elements and, well, all that child murder.

And if you want to be blunt, it's just not a typical "Oscar movie", incredibly deserving though it is.
