6. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes...Because Everyone Hated Tim Burton's Planet Of The Apes Remake
The Awesome Movie: Rupert Wyatt revived the long-stagnant Apes franchise with a superb origin story for ape leader Caesar, bringing the sort of heart back to the series it hadn't seen in decades, and giving Andy Serkis another fantastic opportunity to remind everyone why he's the King of performance capture. How It Got Made: Because Tim Burton's 2001 attempt to remake the franchise was critically savaged and befuddled audiences, despite turning a decent profit at the box office. The peculiar ending, which Burton admitted was tacked-on in case Fox wanted to make a sequel, ironically put audiences off from wanting to see anymore of this universe, and sensing this, Fox quietly stepped back from continuing a Mark Wahlberg-starring Apes franchise. In 2006, development on the Rise script began, a fresh take far away from the nonsense of Burton's version, and thank God for that.
