Release Date: September 2

The Plot: Lighthouse keeper Tom Sherbourne (Michael Fassbender) and his wife Isabel (Alicia Vikander) discover a baby girl washed up in a lifeboat, and decide to take her in as their own. As the years pass, however, a woman (Rachel Weisz) steps forward who may be the real mother.

Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Derek Cianfrance has made two masterpieces to date with Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines, so naturally expectations are extremely high for his latest.

With an awards-friendly cast, acclaimed source material, and gorgeous cinematography from what we've seen so far, this has all the makings of a sure-fire Oscar contender, and will be one of the first serious awards favourites coming out of the gate at the tail-end of the summer.

Above all else, this could be the film that finally catapults Cianfrance from indie success to Academy darling.
