13 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (Which Aren't Blockbusters)
6. Sausage Party
Release Date: August 12
The Plot: A sausage named Frank (Seth Rogen) leads a gang of items in a supermarket who are desperate to be bought on the Fourth of July weekend, believing that being purchased will see them ascend to a heavenly plain.
Once Frank and his hot dog bun love interest Brenda (Kristen Wiig) figure out the truth, that they are merely consumed and killed by humans, they stage a revolt in a desperate bid to survive.
Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Reviews of a work-in-progress version from SXSW have touted Sausage Party as an "adult Toy Story", a clever animation with a unique spiritual theme but also a ton of profanity, death and even food sex.
Though it obviously won't be for everyone, this modest $30 million movie doesn't want for talent from the Rogen stable, so if you're a fan of Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, David Krumholtz, Nick Kroll and so on, this'll probably be right up your street.
With the right marketing, it could easily be one of the biggest surprise hits of the summer.
