13 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (Which Aren't Blockbusters)
7. The Founder
Release Date: August 5
The Plot: The real-life story of how sly Illinois salesman Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) joined forces with restaurateurs Mac (John Carroll Lynch) and Dick McDonald (Nick Offerman) in the 1950s, before buying McDonald's in 1961 and quickly building the empire it has become today.
Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Michael Keaton has been on one hell of a roll lately, what with unforgettable performances in both Birdman and Spotlight. This could very well complete the three-peat, with the reliable John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks) directing, and a script from Robert D. Siegel (Big Fan, The Wrestler).
Plus, pretty much everyone has eaten a McDonald's at some point in their life, so it's got immediately relatable subject matter: perhaps this could end up being The Social Network for the fast food joint.
If that's not enough, the cast is rounded out by Laura Dern, Patrick Wilson, B.J. Novak and Linda Cardellini. Don't be surprised if this one lands a few Oscar nods next year.
