13 Biggest Mistakes The Batman Movies Ever Made
8. Batman & Robin - Where To Begin?!
To open on an unpopular opinion: as a film in its own right, Batman & Robin really isn't that awful. Sure, it's sillier than a sackful of silly things swimming in a sea of silliness, but that's not inherently a bad thing. It's loud, colourful, and entirely aware of its own absurdity, and as such, if you can get into the spirit of things, it's great fun in that so-bad-it's-good way.
But again, this is if we're taking it as a film in its own right. As a progression of the Batman movie series, it's so wildly misjudged you struggle to believe the studio allowed it to happen, although it's no surprise at all that it brought the Bat-franchise to a thundering halt for the following 8 years.
As stated, Batman Forever may have camped things up, but it still told a perfectly good story and at heart seemed to be taking the core characters seriously. However, much as Burton had let his Gothic inclinations overwhelm his second effort Batman Returns, so too did Schumacher let his love of camp saturate every frame of Batman & Robin, with little-to-no sense that either the director or anyone else involved actually cared about the characters or their world.
On top of which, George Clooney - while he may have done great work elsewhere - has to be a strong contender for the most miscast Batman actor ever. Gone is the comparative brood of Keaton and even Kilmer, to be replaced with a perpetual smug grin that even Roger Moore might think was a bit much.
And that's without us even mentioning those nipples.
