3. Peter Venkman Is A Ghost - Ghostbusters

The Theory: Legendary Ghostbuster Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) has died during the 25+ years since the last movie, and cameos as a benevolent ghost who helps the new team out, possibly leading them to the villain. Why It Could Be True: This idea was actually floated around in the original script for Ghostbusters 3 before the reboot was ever conceived of, and it wouldn't be too shocking to see the idea persist in this latest outing. Plus, given how Murray has been insistent that he doesn't want to overshadow the new, all-female set, making him a ghost is pretty much a guarantee that he'd have a small supporting part rather than a focal role. Also, it's just too delicious an idea not to have at least been discussed for the new film. Why It Probably Won't Be: Rumours suggest that Murray is in fact playing a supernatural skeptic as a complete inversion of his original Ghostbusters role, and that he won't be playing Venkman at all. Plus, it's possible that Venkman being a ghost is one of those ideas that Murray hated from the original Ghostbusters 3 script.
